I’ve visited hundreds of schools over the last ten years, and have a reputation for engaging and inspirational school visits. As well as showing children waht they can achieve with their own writing, I always aim to make my sessions captivating and fun!

I run talks and workshops with classes from Reception all the way up to Year 7 – everything from whole school assemblies to workshops with reluctant readers!

All my sessions focus on three key areas: teaching children to use their imagination; building on their language skills; and above all, revisiting and editing their work to improve it. I also like to push children to think about the world around them in a different light: to see how unusual, exciting and strange life can be, and how it makes the best inspiration for stories.

Below are some of my testimonials from the last ten years!

“Ross attended our ‘Words for Children’ event this year and immediately engaged the children. A Year One boy who has struggled to write this year announced to his mum that evening that he was going to be an author! He began his book as soon as he got in from school…”
Jill Nixon, Headteacher

“Ross Montgomery was fantastically engaging and gave our school, and the visiting primary schools, one of the best talks I have ever witnessed. One of the best things was the amount of engagement from the audience, who didn’t even realise they were having an English lesson!”
Neil Madden, Head of Drama, Sibford School

“Ross truly inspired our children. After his visit, non-readers became readers, sneaking sly glances at reading books under the table during lessons. Parents said that their children were asking for notebooks to record inspirations and story ideas. This has really raised the profile of English across the school.”
Lucy Hanham, Head of English, Thorngrove School

“Inspirational! My class couldn’t wait to start their own writing. They had plenty of ideas to put down on paper and I didn’t have one child who didn’t want to get started! Ross structured the session perfectly and even matched it to our topic. It has also given me lots of ideas for the teaching of creative writing. An invaluable experience.”
Liz Richards, Year 2 Teacher, King Edwards Pre-Prep

“The children were totally captivated. We were blown away by their creativity and the dazzling similes that they eventually came up with – fangs as sharp as treacherous butcher’s knives, skin as sparkly as the sun reflecting on the sea, wings with feathers as soft as the clouds, a fiery tail terrifying like a bolt of lightning … such an inspiring, exciting morning.”
Claire Williams, Year 4 teacher

“Absolutely brilliant! The children were so engaged and were desperate to create their own characters. Ross delivered the session perfectly for our Year 1 children and had them hooked from the start. He captured their attention and fired-up their imagination. A great workshop!”
Mr Boydell, Year 1 teacher, King Edwards Pre-Prep
